- About Us
This week in science, we have been looking at seasonal change and the different types of weather we can expect to see in Autumn. We decided to set up an outdoor weather station so that we could record and track each day in our weather diaries. We have made a weather vane to record the wind direction, a rain gauge to collect any rainwater and Miss Macieira hung a thermometer up in the trees so that we could record the temperature. We can't wait to visit the weather station each day to collect the recordings.
As the children have been busy collecting signs of Autumn, we found we had an abundance of leaves which we didn't know what to do with. We used an Autumn Leaf ID chart to name and identify the different leaves we had found and then used them to create our very own Leaf Man! The results were beautiful!
In Science we have been observing changes throughout the seasons and went on a Welly Walk to hunt for 'signs of autumn'. We found a whole host of treasures such as conker husks, spinners, berries and nuts and seeds. When we got back to the classroom we worked scientifically to sort and classify the items into groups based on what they looked like or their type.
Challenge - Make your own autumn discovery bottle and fill a plastic container with autumnal finds and then bring it into class to show everyone.
In science we have begun to look at the human body. We located our main body parts and discussed their purpose which lead wonderfully into introducing the five different senses humans have. These are, sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. We played a game of "Body Part Bingo" where we needed to locate and label body parts on our team members!
