Our First School Trip

Published on Tuesday 15 October 2019 by Miss Roberts.

This week has already been so busy... To start, we have been on our FIRST EVER school trip!

We went to the local park to look at all the changes taking place as we are heading into autumn. We found lots of signs to suggest autumn in full swing for example, pine cones, yellow leaves, helicopters and an acorn! It was so much better to actually get out and walk around the local community and to experience the changes rather than learning about them through a screen. It gave us the opportunity to actually use all of our senses.

A big focus point in our conversations this week is the changes of autumn. At home, it might be nice to discuss what your children can see, feel, smell and hear outside. Our listening skills were so well tuned yesterday that we could even hear the beck.

A big well done to all of Reception. Your behaviour was exemplary and we are all so proud of you. We can't wait for our next school trip!

Learning is Fun

Published on Wednesday 25 September 2019 by Miss Roberts.

Teaching has started! The children are now becoming experts in our maths and phonics lessons and showing all of us how fantastic they are. They have been exploring the early numbers in our maths lessons and learning from a variety of different activities.

We have learned some special words to help us in our maths lessons. They are: counting, ordering and number.

In phonics, we have been learning all about the initial sound of words and trying our best to hear them. We have been super phonics frogs and have worked really hard to form our sounds and recognise them

It has been a busy couple of weeks and we have been getting to grips with lots of new vocabulary. In phonics we have used these special words: sound, phoneme, grapheme, segmenting, blending and initial sounds.

Reception 2019/2020

Published on Monday 16 September 2019 by Mr Storey.

It is crazy to think we have had 9 days in school already. The EYFS team have been amazed at how well the children have settled in. Friendships are starting to flourish and the imaginative play is fascinating to watch. This week we have started to begin our teaching and the children have a good understanding of their expectations in the unit.

We have also introduced some new areas in the unit so the children have been busy exploring. We have a fantastic lesson prepared for tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned for an update!

Dinosaur World

Published on Wednesday 19 June 2019 by Miss Roberts.

We have been learning all about dinosaurs this week! We received a letter from a dinosaur expert who needed our help. We had to look at some dinosaur poo and decide what kind of diet the dinosaur had. Was the dinosaur a carnivore, herbivore or an omnivore? Have a look and see if you can decide...

What an exciting time it was to learn all about dinosaurs. The children really enjoyed it, they even took their learning outside to draw some beautiful pictures of dinosaurs. Some children also created their very own dinosaur land.

Moving on up!

Published on Thursday 13 June 2019 by Mr Storey.

As the children prepare for their next transition in school we had one fantastic idea from a pupil. Cameron went home over the weekend and decided he would like to meet the Nursery children to help prepare them for the jump into Reception. Cameron wanted to give the children an insight into school life and what they can expect in Reception. On Tuesday. Cameron spoke to a large group of Nursery children and it was inspirational. Cameron discussed what they children will learn, how cool the teaching staff are and why there is no reason to be scared. It is very rare children of this age are willing to go out of their comfort zone to deliver their opinion. We feel that Cameron needs to be recognised for his conscientious attitude and we are all proud!

Moving on up!

Well done Cameron!
